I lately came across your weblog and have been learning along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I do not know what to say except that I've loved reading. Fine weblog. I will keep visiting this weblog rather usually.

I like the emphasis "Sigma Phi Epsilon is an undergraduate-driven Fraternity" although we have to read out of the LROB and we have a commitment to a lifetime responsibility of brotherhood.

It would be nice to see what comes of an email like this.

As I am a professional to e-mail marketing you can expect about a 10% response rate from an email like this. Maybe about a 10-25% open rate on an email like this.

The question is, how are responses handled?

If someone from Brother Allemang's chapter is reading the blog it would be great to have our young brother post and tell us how the story ends. How much did it cost him in legal fees, fines, and time spent defending his actions.

It would be a good warning to other young brothers who are preparing to "celebrate" their 21st birthday.

When a story has already made the news the damage has been done. To my best understanding no one has made any comments about the chapter. The individual made his own choices and has been called to account for them. His actions, sadly, reflect on the chapter and the fraternity as a whole. That is not "kicking a man when he is down", it is allowing him the benefit of receiving the consequences of his actions.

So what you are saying is that 95% of our members wouldn't take the time to look into a situation before making a brash comment? 95% of our members get excited about spreading news of someone elses misfortune to get a cheap laugh? 95% would kick a brother while he's down?

The reality of the situation is that the media is not going to spend the time to qualify the reputation of a chapter. So while I understand your sentiments, 95% of our fraternity members would probably act in the same way as the media.

This is a small bump in the road for one of the best, if not the best chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Nebraska Alpha. This chapter has done great things, and will continue to do some. Some of you should evaluate the status of your chapter before you critize one of the most decorated ones.
