Frat Recruiter Lives It Up, Old School Style

Here’s one we missed from a few weeks ago:
Frat Recruiter Lives It Up, Old School Style « The Scarlet Project

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Sigma Phi Epsilon recruitment chairman, Alex Allemang, was arrested shortly after 3:00am on Thursday, July 17th–running naked through a north Lincoln neighborhod! Allemang, who was apparently celebrating his 21st birthday, allegedly was heard shouting loudly into his phone, then stripped his clothes and ran down the street in the upscale development near 17th and Humphrey streets in northwest Lincoln. Allemang continued his bare-ass run when police arrived. A K-9 unit was called to the scene to track Allemang who was later found hiding behind a home a few blocks away. He was apparently still without clothing. (Flashback to Will Ferrell’s infamous streaking incident in the popular movie “Old School”.)

Allemang found himself jailed and ticketed with the following offenses: indecent exposure (duh!), failure to comply, disturbing the peace and trespassing.

The Scarlet Project has obtained Allemang’s LPD mug shot. Fortunately, he appears to have been provided with a stylish blue jail scrub outfit.

No word from Sig Ep on Allemang’s position as recruitment chairman.

And we also found the original news story. For some reason his fraternity affiliation was missing. Maybe that is why we are late with the story. It would have been great to go with the “21 for 21″ post.

Each semester when I review risk management with executive committees I always ask them what would it look like if the headline in the campus newspaper read “SigEp President Arrested for XXXX.” As officers of the chapter they become news when they screw up.

Guess this poor kid didn’t have that advise from his adviser.

What scares me most about this story is his BAC. The other stuff will take care of itself with time and a bit of em-bareass-ment (sorry I couldn’t resist that). The alcohol consumption just scares me. A couple of more drinks and he could have died (Journal Star reported he was 3X the legal limit).

What I don’t get is the use of the language, “Allemang continued his bare-ass run when police arrived,” when another choice of words would have sufficed.

That unfortunate phrase was from a blog entry we copied, er, borrowed, and you know how loose those bloggers are!

The “real” news story is linked at the bottom of the post.

This never would have happened if had attended CLA…. I’m going to guess that recruitment will be easy this semester with all the publicity.

Well then “bare-ass” it is then.

This is a small bump in the road for one of the best, if not the best chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Nebraska Alpha. This chapter has done great things, and will continue to do some. Some of you should evaluate the status of your chapter before you critize one of the most decorated ones.

The reality of the situation is that the media is not going to spend the time to qualify the reputation of a chapter. So while I understand your sentiments, 95% of our fraternity members would probably act in the same way as the media.

So what you are saying is that 95% of our members wouldn’t take the time to look into a situation before making a brash comment? 95% of our members get excited about spreading news of someone elses misfortune to get a cheap laugh? 95% would kick a brother while he’s down?

When a story has already made the news the damage has been done. To my best understanding no one has made any comments about the chapter. The individual made his own choices and has been called to account for them. His actions, sadly, reflect on the chapter and the fraternity as a whole. That is not “kicking a man when he is down”, it is allowing him the benefit of receiving the consequences of his actions.

If someone from Brother Allemang’s chapter is reading the blog it would be great to have our young brother post and tell us how the story ends. How much did it cost him in legal fees, fines, and time spent defending his actions.

It would be a good warning to other young brothers who are preparing to “celebrate” their 21st birthday.
